View Full Version : What's in the fish room?

11-26-2014, 11:44 AM
Hello all and happy holidays! Currently on the road to Ohio for festivities with the family and thought to myself, 'I wonder what people are breeding right now.' No I'm not driving and texting, it's my wife's turn. I (and I assume others) would love to see what members are keeping and breeding. I don't make it to meeting and am always overwhelmed by the massive selection of species at the auctions. I thought maybe we could use this thread to share what's in our fish rooms. That way we can keep track of fish and maybe even start some trading and "dibs calling" on species in grow out. Who knows, maybe you'll discover a lifelong friendship based on species or region preference. Just a thought. so if you're interested, and I hope you are, please take a moment or two to post what you are working with. Thanks all and I look forward to seeing/hearing what you are keeping.

You get your ottos to breed?

11-29-2014, 12:32 AM
No. But from what I read, otos are hard to breed. For most people that get theirs to breed, it happens by accident. In the tanks I keep mine in, the other fish would eat their eggs anyway. Also I only have one zebra oto and 2 common otos left. I plan on getting more of both but I am waiting for Wetspot to have some parotocinclus sp. Peru before I order the other otos to combine shipping costs.

some checkerboard cichlids, NOT the filamentosa or dicrossus species, a different one, i forget the species. look more like a small geophagus

Gold discus fry from Roger
Panda cory cats - have breed in the past
Black emperor tetras - these are small, and all black
regular emperors
some cherry shrimp
Some Koi fry from a pond i was working on - the fish had laid eggs, so i took some in a gatorade bottle...i got about 50 fry to hatch out.
i have 9 angels in my 90 gallon in the office too. hoping for some pairs soon.
also pygmy corys, and some pandy cory juvies

Yeah makes sense Garfield. I have 5 in a 70 planted with jewels and buenos aires tetra. No eggs surviving that onslaught.

Mountainman, I'd love to see some pictures of the black emperors if you can.

Axio and cswain, of course this is judgment free. If you aren't a fish hoarder then I say get out haha.

Most of my tanks are 90 gallons or bigger. Earth-eaters and Plecos are my obsession so I don't do too many small tanks. Some of the tanks are my roomates but last we counted we have 1,350+ gallons worth of fish tanks in the house. Here are as many of mine as I can think of off the top of my head... =)

FW for life!!

Black emperors.
Males have blue eye, females green. They are about 3 years old, so the color is fading, plus the tank is kinda sparse. i have a mop in there i had taken out for the picture, so they were a little stressed. Ina good situation they are jet black....ive raised several generations by moving the moss or mop to a small rearing tank.

I may set them up again on their own...not sure yet. i may be persuaded to let someone else try them....ive never seen them anywhere. i got them at The wholesaler, not a lfs
