View Full Version : Help with IDing this pleco

Hey folks,
Got this pleco from a friend who thought it was a snowflake pleco but was not positive. That's what it was called when it was sold to him. I was able to pull him out while prepping for the auction and got a few pictures taken. All help is appreciated. Thanks!

ancistrus dolichopterus is my guess. they are variable, but google it and you will see some that look just like this one. its probably a female as the males have more wiskers, and they often branch

I agree with the species but that is definitely a male. Females can have bristles but only around the mouth, only males have them going up the ridge of the nose.

Best way to tell for sure is to count the dorsal Rays. I think that A. dolichopterus has more rays than any other species of ancistrus (10).
