It's not a cichlasoma, they are new world and that's definitely old world. Appears to be some sort of Haplochromis female (looks like she's holding). I've never learned the variations of the stripping between the different types and the picture doesn't show any subtle color shade that many female carry. Red trim on the top fin may point to a protomealus teanalius or similar variety.

That's the best I can do.

Google image search lead me to

Pundamilia Pundamilia also known as Haplochromis sp. "blue bar". - Female, bottom of page
http://www.african-cichlid.com/Blue_Bar.htm

No lateral line, but that can vary by individual in other species... The bottom pic does kinda show a lateral line.

note the red at the tops of the fins.

The good news is that given she is holding, you will find out what fish it is in a year or so (unless it was crossed with a different cichlid). It looks like a young Red Empress female to me as I have many of similar fish.

Check out the female on this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35plksFwdIE

No, I go with a Lake malawi "haplochromine". Maybe something like a "red empress". Look for her on this page http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/category.php?cat=1

I agree I think she is red empress or other type if protomelas or a mixed protomelas and the spawn may be the same... Mixes...will wait and see

Funny thing I pulled her from your tank holding, she was in my three other protomelas males all uncolored and one too small too breed possibly, there was another red empress, an imperial tigeress male uncolored that I took and an protomelas insignis I pulled out. So who knows the father, just hope its not the alhi
