did you see them spawn, or just figured it out by her lips and body language?

Congratulations!

Thanks!

They are immediate mouth brooders. I didn't see the spawn but it's pretty obvious. I first noticed it when she went up to dinner (PE mysis) but wouldn't eat.

I actually didn't expect them to breed yet. This is one of the two groups of 6 I'm working with. The other group are smaller but I hope there are more females!!!!

Congratulations. Its always nice to find a fish holding. Will you strip her (after I'm assuming ~ 9-10 days) or let her spit the babies naturally?

I moved her to a separate tank last night. She's supposed to hold for about 20 days. Haven't decided what to do yet...it's first time I had fish from the G. steindachneri complex spawn (G. steindachneri, G. pellegrini, G. crassilabrus). They are very different from the G. surinamensis (e.g., G. altifrons, G. abalios, G. sp. "orange head" etc).

isnt it interesting all the different breeding strategies, even in the same Genus. I studied fish in college, and they are fascinating. so many interesting behaviors.
Good luck on this. it would be very cool if you got fry
