View Full Version : 55g Stocking Ideas?

03-06-2016, 09:59 AM
Ok guys, I need some ideas for what to put in a new 55g I'm setting up. We already have African and Amazonian tanks, so those are out. The only thing that's been decided for the new tank is some nice plecos. I'm looking for fish with some size and personality (that are pleco friendly), preferable a mix of 2 or 3 different species. Ready, GO! :scratchhead:

An Australian rainbow tank. Always lots of color and movement. But will cross breed, so better kept to a single species. Or another different possibility would be a Madagascar based tank.

North American shiners and the like.

No African lake or South American rules out a lot!

You could do several species of barbs or danios, those are Asian....

Or a west African river biotype (soft water) with Kribs, Congo tetras and such...

Why not glow ahead and put one of these together? ;-) http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/03/07/aa07ce5a2b9de376d852d4dd8d411b47.jpg

South American is very much in the running. Trying to avoid African or Amazonian. (Spidangular's suggestion has unfortunately been ruled out. Lol!)

Central american cichlids and livebearers.

Kissing Gourami and Giant Black Upside Down Asian Catfish. Kissing Gourami will get 8-10 inches in the tank. Both species have fun behavior and are not demanding.
