Hi everyone,

It has been a long time since I have stopped by and said hi. Sad to say but life working at Intel in Oregon has really slowed me setting up my fish room, but I have been making a lot of progress and wanted to show off some.

(Hopefully folks remember me ;-)

Anyways I ended up buying a house in Oregon right when I got here, but before I put up tanks I made the call to redo the basement with the sole intent of keeping the house healthy while fishkeeping... (Note this entire thread is a multi-year escapade...)

Before:

and why the heck do we have a 4 image limit :-(

Then it took me a while to get custom stand's/tanks made.
After (verifying stands fit...)

Putting 1 rack together. (Got this one going last year.)

Now I am working on the second rack of 720 gallons:

Filtration is a bit crazy, but I have it all setup so I can do water changes with a twist of a valve. Soon it will also have a water drip system. (All tanks are setup so that if they get too much water it auto drains with no concern of water getting all over the place + fishroom is setup to be able to hold 240 gallons of water in the epoxy sealed floor, I have curved walls with epoxy going up ~4 inches ;-)

All plumbing to the tanks are good. Just working on filtration side:
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a399/ikevi/baskement/IMG_1951.jpg (http://s15.photobucket.com/user/ikevi/media/baskement/IMG_1951.jpg.html)

Note this filtration room is behind the fish room. It works really well to keep the fish room quite, but I will still be putting sound damping boxes around the pumps once I get all 4 going.

Hopefully in a week or 2 I will get to move in the middle racks. Those are "smaller" tanks, going to keep them separate/use bubble based filtration. All intended for breading.

And a quick crud camera phone shot of some of the fish in the 240... Eventually I will need to split them out. (Lets see how many pike folks here know them, saw them and just had to grab them...)

pete will be jealous on those fish! Heck i am too!!
As a pond guy who has worked on or installed hundreds of bead filters and filter systems, you have done well with the plumbing. those Ultima filters are pretty good for the money. It kinda looks like you went with 2" on the control heads? did you? Only issue with them is they need a lot of water and pressure to backflush properly. Going down to that 1" tubing may cause you problems with that depending upon the pumps. Otherwise, excellent job. Im sure you will get decades of enjoyment from the fishroom!

Hey Kevin, glad to hear things are going well out there and glad you are finally getting a fish room up and running again. It has been a while. Are we gonna see any discus in the room?

I made the call to use 1 1/2 for the majority of the piping. -> I swap to 2 inch right before I split it again to 1 1/2 to the 2 screen filters (hopefully will catch any fry before they hi the pump) then 2 inch piping at the inlet. (Dart/Snapper Hybrid for the pumps) I know it means I will be on the low side for the ratings, but at least the pumps have 2-4 feet vertical of water working for them. (So far flushing/rinsing pans out to give the flow rate ~3000 gph.)

Yep, I am going to do have the new 240 will be dedicated to a planted wild discus tank. (I am going to be dumb and unintentionally feed them a lot of Cardinal tetras, goal is to have thousands). The 120 attached will be some cool domestics, and knowing me most of my breeding tanks will end up to be discus.

Wetspot really likes me, and I am always impressed with them. I tend to hit the store about once a month now. The are about 20 min away, and are happily a great spot to stop off after I go to dim sum on east side.

And thanks for the kind comments aXio. These were my second foray into pikes (had a dwarf before). These Zebrina pike will gobble up anything I throw in the tank.

Hi Kevin!

Glad you're doing well. My daughter moved to Portland 2 years ago and she loves the area. Looks like it's going to be a great setup. Still moving those tanks in a Miata?

Yeah I learned in Atlanta that acrylic is by far the way to go for tanks ~120 gallons or higher. (Ron once helped me move a ~3 ft tall 250 with 2 other friends... after that I decided no more glass). Plus it makes it much easier to get custom cuts. I had James from EnvisionAcrylics.com make all my tanks. He is an outstanding tank maker (really artist). All his tanks are 1/2" or thicker acrylic... His cost was basically the cost of glasscages for much much better build quality + 3/4" think on the 240s... I don't know if his ships, but I really lucked out in finding him.

And the the Miata is still doing great. I haven't had to put any tanks, but plenty of 10+ ft long pvc/gutters have been making the trip from Home Depot to my house.

Note, I employed many folks to get this done.
First I contracted an engineer (Phil Sydnor at Integrate Architecture) to make sure everything was planned out well. (I had the vision/crud drawings, he got everything cad designed/spec'd out correctly with my input.)

Then I had the fishroom made/basement redone. (Ripped out a diagonal wall + got rid of false ceiling, a door, had more concrete/epoxy work done + added a split unit, a heat exchange unit, circuit breaker box, lots of outlets/lights and like a bunch of other stuff done by Laevon Hansen and crew.

Once done I designed how I wanted the tanks drilled/setup and found James at EnvisionAcrylics.com (4 120s, one 240 per stand) custom made (He did great work.)
Stands were created by Drew Gaston, Dyadic Iron Works, Inc (again they did outstanding work.)
Then I had a few tank moving parties... (Had to move the 240s from my garage to the basement when it wasn't soaking, had 8-10 folks on the tanks...)

Filtration was done only by me.
Pump -> Reeflo Dart / Snapper Hybrid
Filter -> Aqua Ultraviolet Ultima II
1-1/2 FNPT Large Series Nylon Strainers
Bukckheads/strainers/etc from Jehmco and plumbingsupply.com
PVC/unions/ball valves, etc -> all from Home Depot... way too many trips.

You've got an awesome looking setup, it definitely looks like it was worth the 2 years wait! It's nice to see a build all in one, instead of waiting for things to advance.

I love how sleek and professional it looks.

Brief update. Got my logs in yesterday (well stumps..) So I went a bit crazy getting everything (it was bare tank) + bought/setup some plants today. Stumps still float, so I had have pressure pushing them down. I still need to get another DIY lights below. (I have some more high intensity lights coming to make the lighting even on the top.)
