Hey guys! My name is Matt, as can be distinguished from my username hopefully lol, and I recently heard about this club through the Atlanta Reef Club and figured it was time I joined. I've been keeping freshwater tanks for about 7 years now and at one time had 6 set up. As many of you know- the hobby is addicting! I also really enjoyed the forums aspect to it, as I was an active member of one of the larger forums (not sure if you can reference other forums on here or not, on there you weren't allowed to...) until it was sold and many changes I didn't like began happening. So that led me more into saltwater because it was something new and I felt I knew a lot about freshwater, and if I couldn't chat with other freshwater people as much, saltwater seemed like the right step. So I shut down all my FW tanks except my 55 gallon community and got a 120 gallon reef about 3-4 years ago. I currently still have said 120, and am soon to be setting up an 80 gallon frag system, but my only fw tank is a 10 gallon housing a betta and a shoal of neons. I'm interested in some of the more exotic fish species and was possibly thinking about some sort of fw predator tank or something, if anybody has any ideas. I want to stray away from the community and planted tanks, that's what I've always had and I want something a little different if I start up another freshwater system. Thanks and I hope to meet some of you guys!

Heres some pictures to make this post more lively!

Welcome Matt. You're correct in assuming that many of us run multiple tanks. I am currently running 19. My focus is on African Cichlids (which I am sure you wouldn't guess by my screen name and avatar, LOL). Sounds like you have nice saltwater tank already going, would love to see pictures of your tank (I am currently only freshwater, but like many dabble into many things).

If you were to set up a predatory tank, would most likely have to have some size to it as most of them do get rather large. I must admit, I love to watch the interaction of many of my Africans, especially my Neolamprologus since they have wonderful family groups (take very good care of their young). Many get into these type of tanks by setting up a shell style tank that can be as small as a 20L. I am sure some people can make other suggestions as well if we know the boundaries you want to keep (ie tank size and water type being the primary ones). Many people on here enjoy keeping Angels/Apistos/Rams. Maybe together or maybe as a species tank - but many of these tanks tend to be planted - but not exactly community tanks by definition.

Good luck deciding and welcome to the forum.

I was referencing fishforums.net, it was a great forum until it was sold then it went downhill fast so I stopped using it. No idea what it's like now.

Yeah a lot of them have come and gone like that unfortunately. I was afraid that my very first forum (AquariaCentral) was going to get shut down the other year because they were down for a very long time and I know that the ownership/leadership had exchanged some hands. But they seem to still be alive.

Welcome! You've got some amazing tanks, love the reef tank!

AquariaCentrals counterpart, monster fish keepers was having a legal battle with the energy drink Monster, and that was threatening their existence...

The planted tank is by far my favorite online(complete online) forum, great community and interesting discussions.

I moderated for a few years on AC. Haven't visited much since the changes went into place.

Welcome to the forums, Matt. Your tanks look amazing.

The string algae in the guppy tank... did you ever clear that up? and How?

LOL, I was considering AAAA a local forum in a category of its own... Definitely a great forum here, not complaining! :)

Those were just coming off the Java moss, it just needed a trim and then it was good again.
