Well, been without a tank for a good bit and then seen a 55 set-up using a 75 gallon stand on a neighborhood Facebook group for 70 bucks. I figured what the heck, it's only 70 bucks and I could always sell it for a profit if I change my mind right ?

WRONG

because once I set it up and decided on peacock cichlids the cheap filtration had to go, so I ordered an emperor 400 for 55 bucks and it's ok, that's only 115 and I could still make a couple dollars if I change my mind right?

WRONG

because I will want to over stock my tank so I bought an aquaclear 110 for 80 bucks which brings me to 195. Now I might break even or worst case only loose a few dollars right?

WRONG

the heater that came with the tank was not up to par so 30.00 for a new heater. The gravel was no good for ph buffering so 55.00 for cichlid sand. Not enough for buffering so 15.00 for crushed coral to put in my filter. Oops, need a background so I don't see the wires 10.00 , and not into their choice of decorations so 30.00 . The test kit that came with is 10 years old so I need to replace 15.00, home made ph buffering kit 10.00 and I still have to order fish food.

Omg my 70 dollar aquarium is now a 360 dollar aquarium worth about 150 on The used market.

Except I only kept the tetras to keep the tank cycled until I buy my peacocks which I suspect at 3-4 inch fish x16 will add another 320 dollars bringing my 70 dollar "what the heck" fish tank to around 680 dollars set up cost.

Don't tell my wife how much I spent

Ok, so what you need to do first is stop buying retail and start asking around here. Because I have a few jaeger heaters just sitting around that probably would have sold for 10 bucks a piece. Also have cleaned oyster shells for buffering if needed. Also think petland might still have some of the cichlid gravel for 60% off if they havent sold it all off.

lol Karl! Isn't that always the way. Just like home ownership saves money over renting.

LOL, that's pretty funny!
The next tank will be cheaper for sure! I think we all keep our aquatic spending pretty darn quiet [emoji15]

Maybe your girlfriend will get a better deal from you if you put her in the fish tank. :)

Saving it to show your girlfriend? I don't think she will be your girlfriend anymore if she sees it. For she will probably think the fish are more important to you than she is.

Well looks my sense of humor is not quite understood here;)

The point of the picture meme was that we spend so much money on our fish tanks, that it FEELS like the majority of our budget goes to aquariums and equipment....

I found the picture pretty funny and thought it would fit this thread perfectly.
Like I said I didn't make it, nor do I have a girlfriend at the moment, the joke was the budget was around the aquarium.

Anyways, @karl how is the tank doing? Got any pictures?
