Are there any plants that can stand the hard, high ph(8.5 or so) water in my rift lake tanks. Of course these would not be put in with fish that dig them up or would eat them. I have heard that Italian Val. is a possibility. If so what light conditions would it need.

Thanks

I was told anubias and java fern does ok at that pH. I haven't tried any yet though.

I have java fern in 7.5-8. I have pearl weed floating in with one tank of Tangs. It was an accident, but it seems to be thriving. Do you like the floating weed look?

Actually I do like floating plants. From what I read Pearl Weed can be kind of demanding. High light and so on. Maybe as a floating plant close to the light it might work. I'd give it a try. I threw in some Amazon frogbit and it is surviving at best. In my black water tanks it seems to double about every 3 or 4 days.
