I have a tank here in the office. 33L open top, and I was wondering if there was a plant that I could stick in the water, but have the leaves and stalk of the plant outside of the tank. Is there such a plant I can buy locally?

I've got some emersed growth plants in an open top 20 gallon; I've been planning to get rid of some. I have a Spathiphyllum, some pilea and some Hemigraphis "purple waffle". I keep them in plastic cups suction cupped to the glass. You can get the pilea and the hemigraphis at Lowes, although it might take a while for it to start growing because it's going from normal soil to saturated soil.

Some house plants like bamboo and pothos will also grow out of a tank, but rot if kept under water. A lot of swords would work, too, but they need higher light.

I had a friend recommend "ginger root" Is that sound like something that will work?

Spider plants (Chlorophytum) will also grow with their roots in water and leaves exposed to the air and don't need a lot of light.
