View Full Version : Bulb for a 100g planted

I have a 100g and planted some stuff in there today (just Petco plants... figured I'd see how they'd work)
Bulbs are just what came with the aquarium. I have 4 bags of eco-complete and 1 bag of petco brand sand as the substrate.
I'm confused as to what light I need to grow the plants the best they can be.
Is this good? http://www.petco.com/product/111936/Zoo-Med-T-5-HO-Flora-Sun-Max-Plant-Growth-Fluorescent-Bulb.aspx
Or this? http://www.petco.com/product/113303/Wave-Point-Red-Wave-Plant-Growth-And-Color-Enhancer-HO-T5-Aquarium-Lamp.aspx
Any links to other bulbs would be great, I'm completely lost as to what bulb I need.

Thanks guys :)

It seems like you have an T5 fixture, is it an Normal Output (NO) or High Output (HO) fixture?
Both of the bulbs will work for plant growth, the 8000K will give more pink light and the other one is probably a 6500 -6700K bulb will give more yellow light.
It all depends on what light you like.

If I was you and have the extra cash, check out giesemann bulbs. Ebay link (http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p3872.m570.l1313&_nkw=giesemann+t5ho&_sacat=See-All-Categories) go for a midday and an aquaflora bulb.

What are the names of the plants you bought at Petco? Some of the plants sold by pet stores aren't true aquatics and won't do well in any aquarium.
