I've been looking for these for a while. Finally got a group of 14 from Mark Chen today (keeping 10 and sending 4 to a friend). Fascinating fish

They seem to enjoy perching on rocks, lol

Awesome fish Peter. I'm guessing they're some type of sand sifter?

Thanks :) Very excited to finally found them.

Matt - they are in Geophaginae somi guess you can say they sift sand. Retroculus is actually the earliest diverging taxon (i. e. the most basal lineage) of neotropical cichlids. They have reduced swimming bladder and are more adapted to rivers with rapid currents.

These remind me of a West African Steatocranus species. Nice fish Peter! It seems you are always getting something rare!
