I thought I'd post some pictures of these guys, they are F1's, wild parents from Rio Usumacinta, Mexico.

Saw them in the first aquarium book I bought and thought to myself I have to get some of these... one of my all time favorites

Sub-Adults, coloring up nicely, and starting to show some attitude

Thanks Guys, yep on the name... I've seen 4-5 different names for them over the years, some different depending on what part of the river they were collected in... a little crazy and fiercely debated on some forums.

I got my first group of them about 7 years ago, but I did not know those were hybrids... it turned out the breeder was using them to cross breed for flower horns.... Sorry all you flower horn lovers out there... I really hate they use them for that purpose. At that time, my males were 14-15 inches and my females never grew beyond 4 inches... but this time around I was able to track down a reputable breeder.

What size are the pure ones suppose to be?

females should be around 12 inches and males about 16 inches

edit: wild both can grow larger than this
