View Full Version : Reef Upgrade 36g

The same thing happened with my freshwater tanks, I wanted bigger and more :D Last fall i had this tank setup as a planted tank with angels, corys, and apistos. I broke it down due to lack of space in my apartment. My 5.5g reef at my office was getting too full and the corals were looking rough. I had most of the equipment needed for an upgrade so I figured what better time :)

Tank - 36g corner bowfront
Lights - AquaIllumination Sol Blue LED
Skimmer - Bubble Magus NAC5E
Flow - MP10es
Heater - Jager 150w
Water - BRS Stage 5 Plus 75gpd RODI, JBJ ATO, 5g RODI reservoir
About 35lbs of sand and about 30lbs of rock

I filled the tank and started the cycle in early August. I knew it would take a while to cycle starting with dead rock and August was a pretty busy month so I let it do it's thing for about a month and a half. About two weeks ago I moved all corals, my clown, cleaner shrimp, and porcelain crab over. So far everything is doing great. I have a slight GHA problem but I just started making my own RODI instead of relying on Publix so hopefully that will help my problem.

I plan on adding another clown and a couple other fish. Corals will consist of LPS, SPS, and zoas. More to come :D

How did you get two pieces of live rock to float in the air?

roy - the rocks are man-made with a magnet inside, put another one on the outside of the tank and viola :D

peter - lol you're all about the fish and inverts. there is still a clown in there as well as a shrimp. i wanted to put some corals in to get it going first but fish are on the way. here's the plan...

Lol I'm very tempted. Sounds like a lot more work than FW though. Maybe I'll get one of those small biocubes and see how it goes.

it's a lot of fun. so many gadgets. im hoping to get it going with less maintenance. im having a po4 issue so just some more toys i get to buy :D i'm able to control the tank, light intensities, pumps, filter, all via as app on my phone. it's like having a planted tank only 100000x cooler lol
