How long do paternal west african mouthbrooding cichlids hold before releasing and any care after release

Hi Bob,

I breed Malawi (mostly Mbuna)... they will normally hold to 3 weeks (21 days). I normally strip at 14-18 days, as some of the mothers will eat their fry if I can't get to them in time.

After release:

1. I feed strictly brine shrimp. I hatch a batch every day, until they're about 1 inch
2. At 1", I move to NLS Grow. At move them to a grow-out tank (usually a 20L)

Cool fish. Only link I found was http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/benito_nigrodorsalis_pt2.php and it doesn't answer your question. Are there any other names? I can't find them in this book http://www.amazon.com/Cichlids-West-Africa-Horst-Linke/dp/1564651665

It is also not in my book "Cichlids from West Africa" by Wolfgang Staeck. It looks a lot like a Chromidotilapia. I'll bet Ted Judy could tell you about them.

Mine consistently hold for 1 day. Then swallow. Oh well....
