Had a sudden ammonia spike. Have been doing water changes, but lost a couple of fish. Is there anything else I could do besides water changes?

It'd be helpful to know the tank size, stocking and filtration.

When I have an ammonia spike, first I do a 80%+ WC, and add Stability as well as some Pure Aquarium balls. I do not feed the fish for at least a day or two. Usually I can spot that ammonia is present when the fish do not eat as much or at all (.50 ppm with Odessa Barbs) OR when the water has a lot of small bubbles forming on the edges (.25 ppm).

You can use Prime or Amquel+ as an emergency ammonia fix. An OD of Prime can help fish survive a spike, but add aeration and watch for gasping as it can also deplete oxygen in the water.
