Article in tropical fish hobbyist says it's a fern. Even when left to die send to be ok. Best looking when attached to driftwood or rocks. If left alone at bottom provides cover for bottom dwelling fish

The mystery is subwassertang v. pellia. They look identical. We bought bags of each at the auction and while we can't be sure of the ID of either, they are in fact different plants. Subwassertang as you said, is a true aquatic fern. Pellia is a liverwort. Completely different genuses which is amazing considering their similarities. If anyone knows a trick to differentiate the two, I'd love to hear it!

I wondered about that too. Asked a few people at the auction and no one knew for sure.

Monosolenium tenerum or perilla has a vein running down the middle, Susswassertang doesn't.
