I've got a pair of keyholes (least I think so) that has laid eggs 4 times now but the eggs always turn white within 4-5 days of being laid. They take turns fanning the eggs and defending their territory. Had them in a 55 with 3 other keyholes, pair of Kribs, and assorted guppies. Once they got frequent with the egg laying, 3x I moved them to a 40breeder with an bushy nose and 3 corydoras. Waters at 76 degrees ph of 7.0 no nitrate nitrite nor ammonia. Any experience or words of wisdom is appreciated. Thanks. Ben

How old are they? What is the hardness? What do they look like at day 2 and 3?

Did you actually see the spawning - did the male do his thing?

I'd estimate just over a year old. I'm not sure of hardness. I have not witnessed spawn no. Come down in the morning and there they are, guarding eggs. Day two eggs look an opaque brown.

What about day 3 and 4? When do they turn white?

some are white around day 4. Day 6 today all were white. Within two hours of me turning on lights the fish had cleaned the slate off eggs

Generally infertile eyes turn white within 24 hours. Sounds like yours are dying. Might be bacteria, protozoan or parasite. Small infestations can kill eggs and fry and have no effect on other fishes. Hardness of water plays a part sometimes also. Fish tend to eat dead eggs.

i agree with roger, if they are still brown at 4 days, they are fertilized, but not hatching.

may be hard water. ive heard that can harden the shells.

try moving the eggs to another tank with softer lower ph water, 6.5-7.5 or so. Air bubbles on the eggs, that may help them hatch.....
Ive hatched several batches of keyhole eggs that way.

Eggs laid again, didn't see breeding act/dance. Moved rock with eggs to critter keeper with air stone. Fingers crossed
