View Full Version : Stocking a Malawi tank

I am changing over a 38 gallon (29 gallon with 9 gallons extra on top) to make an Afican cichlid tank. I really need some videos of the hard water fish. What can I put in this tank, preferably not a species only tank? Looking for color and a doable fish to breed. Never bred any of the mouth brooders or others hard water cichlids other than shell spawners. Best for me would be fish suggestions that someone has available now or very soon. After this tank I want to do the same thing with a 33 (48 x 12 x13). Thanks.

So they finally lured you over to the dark side, huh?

Hello Dave,

In one tank (55G though) I have the following and they ALL spawned:
Astatotilapia aeneocolor "yellow bellied albert" 1 Male - 3 females
Lodotropheus sprengerae - 1 Male - 3 females
Sciaenochrmis Ahli - 2 Male - 4 females
Labidochromis Caereleus - 2 Male - 4 females

You can instead of the yellow bellied albert, have Haplochromis sp. "35", aka sp. "Tomato"

So you have bronze, blue, yellow and green/red colors. I have juv of each. of the above fish.
