View Full Version : Why is this fish not common?

I just got 3 pairs today of Neochromis Greenwoodi Velvet black at the mini auction and found this fish stunning. The three males are in 3 different tanks and they all "color up" quickly. Here is the picture of one of them. I must say the picture does not do him justice. This fish is in sharp contrast with the others. Click on the pic to zoom.

Well for starters it is a Victorian Cichlid , imports of fish from there are almost non existent . I have kept this fish for over 2 years , broods are generally small . less than 12 eggs . The pretty little guys can be mean as all get out . Best rule of thumb is not to keep them with other Victorians , and never with another black fish . They are quit stunning though , the black reminds me of some saltwater fish , velvet is definitely appropriate .

If we were a couple months further along with our tank plans, you wouldn't have won them at the auction. ;) They were very tough to pass on.

I think Pierre has a customer just about lined up for the first spawn.
