I switched my 40 breeder to a 65 gallon tank recently. I wanted to get a larger tank for potential discus and the 65 has the same footprint as the 40B (I have a nice stand that I purchased and I don't have too much room in my apartment for a larger footprint). I wanted to get the tank filled with plants so that everything could take root before I started adding anything. I used the substrate from the old tank, which is just a mix of eco complete and turface. I also kept some of the old plants that I had, java fern, anubias, cryptocoryne spiralis, and an amazon sword. Plants took a while to come. I ordered online, but after the shipping deadline so I had to wait a week and a half. There was an error in shipping so I went to pick up the package when it came so that they would not have to wait another day. I recieved dwarf hairgrass, stargrass, jungle val, some more amazon swords, tiger lotus, telanthera rosefolia and hygrophila corymbosa. I had class in the evening so I was crunched for time due to the shipping error.

Anyways, here is the tank after planting. It is a little dusty and dirty but soon cleared up.

The dwarf hairgrass was such a pain to plant. Within the following week, it began melting. But is starting to come back now. I rearranged some of the plants now that they have started growing so well. Last week I added a school of cardinals, an sae, and rcs, which was about two weeks after planting.
As I have been trying to balance co2, light, and ferts, I have gotten some algae growth but it seems as though it has slowed down lately.

Here are the cardinals

I'm a little worried about the cardinals. They are still very shy when people walk around the tank and they do not go for food. I have only lost 2, however they were much smaller than the others and had obvious deformities.

And here is what it looked like this morning.

Sorry, I tried to insert the images, but they either wouldn't upload, or the tag just came up with a broken image. Links should be good though!

Looking good. I bet that you'll have a nice curtain effect in the when the jungle val takes off.

Thanks! Yes, that's what I am hoping for. My girlfriend doesn't like the wires in the back and I don't want a background so that was my solution.
