Home-made bio filter, any tips?

I was at Rogers and seen he had what I would call a bio filter.
Running all his water thro a barrel with something in it.
I was so fasinated with his set up and learning so much.
Were can I find some info on making a filter of this type?
I thought about syphoning all the tanks to a low spot. then using some thing like a sump pump to pump to a tank/filter higher then the rest of tanks then gravity flow to the tanks.
Is this posible??? smile

Honestly you will find all you need here:  http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forum … y.php?f=30
and Here: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forum … y.php?f=29

Usually for bio-material people use the cheap scrubbing pads.  You need to make sure they are not chemically treated with anything.
