Thanks for the loan, Dan. It was a great meeting, wasn't it? (Of course, you worked harder than I did...)

Setting up a 75 Gallon Tank

by Dasher on 11-26-2013 at 02:42 PM
Yes, ladies and gents, it is that time again! As well all know, we ALL only have room for one more tank, and I am no different! A friend here at work is selling a 75 with stand and lights for $200. She kept Rocky the bearded dragon in there and Rocky, at the tender age of 11 has passed. A moment of silence for Rocky....

Okay! I've been eager to make an effort to consolidate some tanks, and this is an excellent opportunity. I currently have these tanks running: 125, 55 x2, 37

How to Recaulk a Tank - Step 2

by Dasher on 05-13-2012 at 10:00 PM
It's been a while since I have been able to focus on this recaulk job, but tonight I made some more headway and want to share my progress. Tonight I managed to scrape all the rest of the old caulk off the tank, clean the tank with alcohol, and apply the caulk. In the following pictures you will find:

1. How very clean the glass has to be. You have to make sure there is ZERO old caulk on the glass.

How to Recaulk a Tank in Three Easy Steps (Step 1 cont'd again)

In these last steps you will see how much progress I made tonight. Also, you will see that if you indeed choose to recaulk your tank, you will indeed scrape yourself and you will indeed need several razor blades.

In the last picture, just like a proud fisherman, I am holding up some more of those "long runs" that make caulk removal easier.

Please check back for the next step of "How to Recaulk a Tank in Three Easy Steps".

Thanks for

How to Recaulk a Tank in Three Easy Steps (Step 1 Cont'd)

by Dasher on 04-30-2012 at 10:33 PM
I got a bit more work done tonight than just my previous blog entry so here for your viewing pleasure are some more photos documenting my progress tonight.

In the following pictures you will see the alcohol and water mix and rags I used, and you will also note how thin the caulk is on the upward lines of the tank. It's really no wonder the thing didn't leak sooner!

You will notice that as I got to work on the caulk on the bottom of the tank, I managed to scrape/peel the

How to Recaulk a Tank in Three Easy Steps

by Dasher on 04-30-2012 at 10:24 PM
I don't know why it is, but I seem to do my best thinking and spontaneous thinking late at night! For your reading pleasure I am going to document how I am going through the process of recaulking my 55 gallon tank.

A little background: I bought this tank used from Craigslist for $150.00. I think it came with lights and possibly a filter, but the tank was set up as a saltwater tank. Whatever, I set it up and it has run great for the past minus 2 years. Then, about 3 weeks ago,
